DIY Coffee Bar in the Kitchen

This little built in kitchen desk has come a long way since we’ve moved in. Adding the vertical shiplap was a super fun and relatively easy way to add some interest to the nook. I went with the same color on the board and batten in the breakfast nook of this space which is Natural Cream by Benjamin Moore.

Installing Shiplap

I started by measuring the vertical distance from the desk to the ceiling and used a miter saw to cut the boards to length. It’s a good idea to measure both ends and the middle because the length could vary a bit. Ceilings aren’t as straight as you might think they are.

*After cutting the boards I highly recommend painting the grooves and the side. There’s a gap between shiplap boards therefore it’s much easier to do this before installation.

I attached the boards using 2” nails in a nail gun. I located the studs and made sure to hit them on the boards I could. For this project I added a 1×2 on the end to create a finished look. It was now time to paint! I love having all our coffee supplies in one area and displayed in an organized way. Everything pictured is linked above. 🙂
