Baby Talk: Feeding Essentials at 9 Months

Everett is just starting to eat more solids. We started with the typical baby food purees and had a tough time progressing, mostly due to Everett being sick with one thing after another. When he wasn’t feeling well he wasn’t interested in eating much outside of his bottles. He still didn’t seem too crazy interested in baby food so we’ve started to feed him more of what we are eating and he’s been enjoying that. We usually grab a pouch of pureed fruits or vegetables for him while we are on the go and he will do a good job eating about 1/3 or 1/2 of it at a time. Some of Everett’s favorite pouches are the following:

4moms High Chair | Currently on sale (almost $60 off!!) This high chair has been great for us. The tray is super easy to put on and take off with just one hand. It’s magnetic allowing it snap into place super easily. It was important to me that I found a high chair without fabric to make clean up a breeze and I accomplished that with this one.

Boon Snack Cup | I haven’t used these too much yet but I did test it out by filling one with puffs and shaking it, nothing came out so that is a win. Everett isn’t quite to the point where we would hand him a container like this for him to snack out of but I’m sure it won’t be too much longer and I have a feeling these snack cups will end up being perfect.

Bibs | Silicone bibs are easy to clean and practical when it comes to feeding. Another bonus is Everett enjoys chewing on the bib itself so it’s perfect for a teething baby.

Boon Sippy Cup | I am loving these so far! We recently started setting this sippy cup with a small amount of water on Everett’s high chair during meals and he got the hang of it right away. Also loves chewing on the silicone lids. These lids can actually be added to almost any cup and they are spill proof.

Comotomo bottles | I’ve talked about these before but still my absolute hands down favorite bottle! I am seeing now how beneficial the soft bottle is since Everett can hold the bottle on his own, makes it so much easier for him.

Bowls | This bowl is perfect for feeding and storing leftovers with the lid it comes with. Also has a bottom that suctions to the tray to help keep it in place.

Utensils | Loving these bamboo and silicone utensils. They are the perfect size for Everett to hold himself. Another product where the silicone tip is perfect for a teething baby.

ezpz Mat Plate | I don’t actually own this yet but it’s in my cart and I’ve heard good things about it. Everett just started eating more solid food other than pureed baby foods so I think this will be perfect for portioning his meals. Also love that the tray is designed to stay in place and easily portable for traveling.

Favorite Baby Toys at 8 months

I’ve been meaning to get this post up for awhile now. I am home today with Everett and taking advantage of his play time this morning to talk about some of his favorite toys up to this point. Fun fact: he is playing with all of these as we speak!

One day I brought this bin filled with toys out to the living room and placed it in front of him and I was amazed by how entertained he was. It’s also so fun watching him pick through the basket and slowly but surely pull everything out until he is surrounded by everything. It’s been a really great way to keep him entertained while we get ready in the mornings as well. If you try this out yourself I’d love to hear how it went for you and your baby!

Favorite Baby Items Through 6 Months

I want to share some of my favorite baby items that we’ve been using through Everett’s first 6 months. Everything I am about to talk about are things that we use almost daily. Another reason I want to share these items is because I spent a lot of time doing research before deciding what I ultimately wanted for Everett so I feel very confident in these suggestions. Of course there are so many great items out there, and splurging on some of these things is not totally necessary, but we do have some very generous family and friends for gifting Everett with a few of these items and we are so thankful for that!

Larger Items:

Dock A Tot – It’s perfect for daytime naps and we feel completely safe allowing Everett to sleep in there. He does not sleep in there at night, he is in a bedside bassinet but the Dock A Tot has been wonderful for napping. Another really convenient aspect is how portable it is. We’ve taken it with us on many weekend trips, it doesn’t take up too much space and has always come in handy.

Hatch Sound Machine – This device is awesome and also portable making it very easy to travel with. I love that I can access the device through the app on my iPhone – including turning it on/off, adjusting the noise level, color, sounds, etc. Each night we turn this on for white noise and we use the red light. I initially liked the blue light but did a little research and apparently red is the best for sleep so that’s what we’re going with. I think once Everett starts sleeping in his own room Wes and I will have to get another one for us to use – we’ve become to accustomed to the soothing noise!

Nuna Pipa Car Seat – I love this car seat so much. I did quite a bit of research before making this purchase and I can say it was most definitely worth the investment. Everett can end up spending quite a bit of time in his car seat depending on where we are going and it’s something we usually use multiple times a day. It also attaches easily to this stroller, which I am also obsessed with. I really can’t say enough good things about this car seat.

Bloom Coco Go Lounger – Another really great item for travelling with. This folds down flat and has a carrying case so it’s a breeze to bring along somewhere. It folds up/down in a matter of seconds as well – super convenient and portable. We also keep this set up in Everett’s nursery which allows him to sit upright and play with books, toys, etc.

4moms Playard – We got the breeze and it’s been great. I can’t find the exact one we have but I will link to their model that would be most similar. What sold me was the easy set up and take down. I have seen one too many people struggle with setting up their pack and plays that I was on a mission to find something that wouldn’t be that difficult. I definitely found it with this item. It takes just a few seconds to expand and fold back up. We used this a lot over the summer and the bassinet insert was perfect for our newborn at the time.

Smaller Items:

Comotomo Bottles – We started out using the nanobebe bottles and I wanted to love them so bad but the truth is they were awful for us. No matter what we did they always seemed to leak, which was super frustrating and messy. We ended up switching to Tommee Tippee bottles which worked just fine. One downside was due to the shape of the bottle it was always hard to get the last 0.5 ounce out. I then purchased the comotomo bottles and never looked back, they’ve been excellent! The soft/squishy bottle makes it easy for him to grab at and eventually hold on to.

Bandana Bibs – I am obsessed with the Copper Pearl bandana bibs. They are super soft and functional, not to mention adorable! We go through anywhere from 1-3 bibs a day, mostly due to all the drooling that comes with teething. Their burp cloths are also great, I love how big and absorbent they are.

Stretchy Swaddles – The Copper Pearl swaddles have been so wonderful. Again they are very soft and the stretchy material makes swaddling your baby a breeze. I didn’t find these until Everett was a few months old but I sure wish I would have had them from the beginning! A couple of my favorite ones can be found here and here.

Nose Frida – A friend got this for me as a gift and I remember her saying she thought it was really gross at first but it quickly became an essential item in their home and she was right. This little device will get the job done and I don’t even think it’s gross now that I’ve tried it out for myself. Everett doesn’t seem to enjoy it too much but the nose frida is pretty quick to use and effective at the same time.

If you have any questions on these products please let me know and I’d be happy to provide more information!
